چکیده

We show how the correlation between the thermal Sunyaev Zel’dovich effect (tSZ) from galaxy clusters and dust emission from cosmic infrared background (CIB) sources can be calculated in a halo model framework. Using recent tSZ and CIB models, we find that the size of the tSZ×CIB cross-correlation is approximately 20 per cent at 150 GHz. The contribution to the total angular power spectrum is around−2μK2 at = 3000; however, this value is uncertain by a factor of 2–3, primarily because of CIB source modelling uncertainties. We expect the large uncertainty in this component to degrade upper limits on the kinematic Sunyaev Zel’dovich effect (kSZ), due to similarity in the frequency dependence of tSZ×CIB and kSZ across the frequency range probed by current cosmic microwave background missions. We also find that the degree of tSZ×CIB correlation is higher for mm×sub-mm spectra than mm×mm, because more of the sub-mm CIB originates at lower redshifts (z 2), where most tSZ clusters are found.

Relativistic Corrections to the Sunyaev-zel’dovich Effect for Clusters of Galaxies. Ii. Inclusion of Peculiar Velocities

We extend the formalism of the relativistic thermal Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect to the system moving with a velocity ~ β ≡ ~v/c with respect to the cosmic microwave background radiation. In the present formalism, the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect for the cluster of galaxies with a peculiar velocity ~ β is derived in a straightforward manner by the Lorentz boost of the generalized Kompaneets...

Cosmological constraints from the observed angular cross-power spectrum between Sunyaev-Zel’dovich and X-ray surveys

We present the first detection of the cross-correlation angular power spectrum between the thermal Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (tSZ) effect and the X-ray emission over the full sky. The tSZ effect and X-rays are produced by the same hot gas within groups and clusters of galaxies, which creates a naturally strong correlation between them that can be used to boost the joint signal and derive cosmological ...

The Thermal Sunyaev-zel’dovich Signature of Baryons in the Local Universe

Using cosmological hydrodynamical simulations, we investigate the prospects of the thermal Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (tSZ) effect to detect the missing baryons in the local universe. We find that at least 80% of the tSZ luminosity is generated in collapsed structures, and that ∼ 70% of the remaining diffuse tSZ luminosity (i.e., ∼ 15% of the total) comes from overdense regions with δgas >10, such as f...

Hydrodynamical simulations of the Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect: the kinetic effect

We use hydrodynamical N -body simulations to study the kinetic Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect. We construct sets of maps, one square degree in size, in three different cosmological models. We confirm earlier calculations that on the scales studied the kinetic effect is much smaller than the thermal (except close to the thermal null point), with an rms dispersion smaller by about a factor five in the...

Relativistic Corrections to the Sunyaev-zel’dovich Effect for Clusters of Galaxies. Iii. Polarization Effect

We extend the formalism of the relativistic thermal and kinematic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effects and include the polarization of the cosmic microwave background photons. We consider the situation that a cluster of galaxies is moving with a velocity ~ β ≡ ~v/c with respect to the cosmic microwave background radiation. In the present formalism, polarization of the scattered cosmic microwave backgroun...
